Racing country
Hendra grew up around racing. The racecourse line opened through Hendra in 1882, and so many horse trainers built homes and stables here that more than 50 were listed under Hendra in 1949. Backyard stables are still part of the suburb, so watch for horses on the streets in the early morning.
Character homes and big blocks

The suburb's name
Hendra's name came from the station on the racecourse line, likely named after Hendra in Cornwall. The local school opened in 1864 as Eagle Farm School and was renamed Hendra in 1908. Nudgee Road runs through the suburb.
